Remembering Senator Warren Rudman

Senator Dole with Senator Warren RudmanStatement of Senator Bob Dole
on the passing of
Warren Rudman

“We have lost an American statesman with the passing of former Senator Warren Rudman.

He was a personal friend and one of my strongest supporters during the time I was the Republican Leader.
He was not a partisan but a pragmatic Republican who wanted to get things done and did his best to do so.

Elizabeth and I extend our condolences to his wife, Margaret, his daughters Laura and Debra, other family members and countless friends.”

Remembering Senator George McGovern

George McGovern and Bob Dole

Statement of Senator Bob Dole
on the passing of
Senator George McGovern.

"Today the world has lost a great American.

Senator George McGovern lived his life by serving others.  Today, 31 million children will participate in the school lunch program thanks to the tireless efforts of Senator McGovern – a humble, compassionate and caring man who always looked out for those in our society who needed a helping hand.  His influence in fighting hunger extended far and wide, and our world is a better place because of his generous spirit.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Senator McGovern embraced the world with his optimism.  From combat missions over Europe during World War II to the floor of the U.S. Senate, Senator McGovern’s legacy has touched countless lives.

Elizabeth and I send our sincere condolences to the McGovern family on the loss of a true American hero."

Remembering Senator Arlen Specter

Arlen Specter and Bob Dole, both from Russell, KansasSTATEMENT OF
SENATOR BOB DOLE
ON THE PASSING OF
SENATOR ARLEN SPECTER

“Senator Specter and I were longtime personal friends. He attended high school in my hometown of Russell, Kansas.

Without a doubt, he was one of the brightest lawyers who ever served in the Senate. He was on the Kansas state championship debate team around 1940.

Sometimes friendship is more important than politics and, while I was disappointed when Senator Specter changed party, friendship overrode my disappointment.

Elizabeth and I send our sincere condolences to Arlen’s wife, Joan, sons Shanin and Steve, as well as his many friends in Kansas and Pennsylvania.”

Washington Post article: "Former senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s most durable political figures who during three decades in the Senate became known for his command of constitutional law, died of cancer on Sunday at his home in Philadelphia. He was 82...". Full Story, Washington Post
