Cole Comments on Aid to Egypt

Sep 28, 2012 Issues: Defense and National Security

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced its intention to transfer $450 million in aid funding to Egypt.  Cole serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, which is chaired by Rep. Kay Granger.

"Increasing Egyptian aid by $450 million is unwise given the ongoing instability threatening American interests.  The United States should not reward foreign governments that fail to respond adequately to attacks on U.S. citizens and territory within their borders.  I support Chairwoman Granger's decision to block this funding until we can be sure it will not be misused."
