Gardner Statement on Passage of Russia Trade Bill

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 6156, the Russia and Moldova Jackson-Vanik Repeal Act of 2012:

“Keeping up with growing world markets is essential to maintaining our economic competitiveness and getting our trade deficit under control.  Today’s legislation will establish stronger trade relations with Russia and Moldova by further opening their markets to our products – like Colorado cattle, corn and wheat.  This will bring revenue into our country and promote job creation here at home.

“While it behooves our nation to tap into Russia’s 140 million consumers, it is also important that our trade partners are complying with international law.  By establishing permanent normal trade relations with these nations, we may benefit from trade laws, like reduced tariff rates and the ability to enforce intellectual property rights.”

H.R. 6156 passed 365-43.  During his time in Congress, Gardner has also voted for free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea.
