WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today issued the following remarks in response to the introduction of a mass amnesty bill in the U.S. House of Representatives:
“At a time when our unemployment rate is in the double digits, it is unfathomable for anyone to introduce a bill that essentially proposes we reduce illegal immigration by making all illegal immigrants legal,” said Alexander, a member of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus.
“Illegal immigrants currently occupy eight million jobs in the United States while 15 million legal workers are unemployed. By simply enforcing existing immigration laws, the federal government could put countless Americans back to work.
“Any immigration policy Congress decides to push forward must put the needs of American workers at the forefront, not reward those who are in our country illegally.”
