AG Eric Holder Should Be Held in Contempt for Congressional Stonewall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Jamie Hanks | (202) 225-8490

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, released the following remarks after the House of Representatives voted in favor of holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress:

“In recent months, the reckless operation known as “Fast and Furious” has caused an uproar in the halls of Congress and across America for a lack of answers and a lack of cooperation from AG Holder and now the administration.

“The gun-running operation to equip known criminals led to the avoidable killing of American border agent Brian Terry, and a congressional investigation into the serious failures caused by Fast and Furious has been stonewalled by the Justice Department for more than a year-and-a-half.

“AG Holder has hindered the meticulous process by refusing to turn over subpoenaed documents related to the Fast and the Furious operation. The continued hesitance on the attorney general’s behalf raises red flags, compounded by President Obama’s assertion of executive privilege to keep them concealed.

“Until these vital documents are produced, and uncertainty is cleared regarding potential government wrongdoings in either the botched operation itself or in impeding the investigation, I stand with the majority of my colleagues in holding AG Holder in contempt of Congress.

“The family of Brian Terry and the American people deserve answers, and those who contributed to this failure must be held accountable.”

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
