Udall Calls on Congress to Abandon Rigid Pledges, Avert Fiscal Cliff

Posted: Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Mark Udall called on his colleagues in Congress today to abandon unbending pledges and dogma as they work toward averting the fiscal cliff. Udall thanked entrepreneur and small business owner Lisa Goodbee, president of Goodbee & Associates from Centennial, for being a leader on averting the fiscal cliff and said her presence in Washington should be a wake-up call for leaders on the fiscal cliff.

"I commend Lisa Goodbee for coming to Washington and expressing her concerns about the fiscal cliff to President Obama, including her strong belief that the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans should pay a little more to help us avoid going over the cliff," Udall said. "As an engineering firm involved in transportation projects along the Front Range, Lisa’s company is literally moving Colorado forward. She understands how harmful the fiscal cliff would be for Colorado’s economy, and she knows that we need to take a balanced approach to confront this problem."

Goodbee, also a council member of the Small Business Majority Network Council, visited the White House today along with 14 other small business owners from across thecountry, to meet with President Obama and discuss the current fiscal situation and its potential impact on small businesses.

“It was exciting to meet with President Obama today to discuss small business issues, and specifically, how the fiscal cliff potentially affects my company," Goodbee said. "As an engineer working in the transportation field, potential cuts to infrastructure funding are especially concerning. It’s really important for my clients and my own business for Congress to take a balanced approach to this problem, and find a sensible solution that both generates revenue and cuts expenses.”

In August, Udall led a bipartisan letter from majority of Colorado’s congressional delegation urging congressional leaders to actively work on passing a comprehensive, balanced deficit reduction package.
