Gingrey investigates Medicare fraud

The Health Subcommittee, of which Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D., is a member, this week examined existing anti-fraud measures utilized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and discussed potential new approaches to fraud prevention. The Government Accountability Office has repeatedly designated Medicare and Medicaid as being at “high risk” for fraud, abuse, and improper payments. With some estimates predicting Medicare could go bankrupt as soon as 2017, Gingrey has made reforming the program a legislative priority.

During yesterday’s hearing, Gingrey noted that the current health care law mandates multiple anti-fraud provisions, including several safeguards the Obama administration has failed to employ.

“The administration owes us an accounting of the reasons why to date seven of the eight provisions have not been implemented,” Gingrey said.

As co-chair of the House GOP Doctors Caucus and through his role on the Health Subcommittee, he will continue working in the 113th Congress towards solutions to protect Medicare for future generations.
