According to a recent article in U.S. News and World Reports, two new EPA pollution regulations will “slam the coal industry so hard that hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost, and electric rates will skyrocket 11 percent to over 23 percent, according to a new study based on government data.”
WHAT REPUBLICANS ARE DOING
On Wednesday June 22, the House considered H.R. 2021, the Jobs and Energy Permitting Act of 2011. The bill would eliminate needless permitting delays that have stalled important energy production opportunities off the coast of Alaska. The bill would eliminate uncertainty and confusion under the Clean Air Act that has delayed – sometimes for years – oil exploration in the Alaskan Outer Continental Shelf. The bill would apply to other offshore areas as well.
House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings unveiled a discussion draft of The National Petroleum Reserve Alaska Access Act, a bill to cut through bureaucratic red tape and unlock the full potential of energy resources in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A). As part of the American Energy Initiative, this legislation would create new jobs, support current energy jobs in Alaska, and help lower energy costs by ensuring NPR-A resources are developed and transported in a timely and efficient manner.
REPUBLICAN MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Congressman David Schweikert (R-Scottsdale) spent time at the pump talking to patrons and filling up gas tanks. Congressman Schweikert invited constituents to come out and talk about the issue of rising gas prices and energy independence.

We have passed legislation that opens up our own resources, increases American energy production, and put Americans back to work.
