Ensuring an Accurate Count in the 2010 Census
It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your United States Senator, and I am grateful for the opportunity to stand up for California families in Congress. This web feature explains why the Decennial Census is important to all of us and how I am working in the Senate to ensure the most accurate count in 2010.
If you or your family should have any questions, please feel free to address them with my staff. I also welcome you to contact my offices throughout California and in Washington, DC or to visit my online contact form to share your views.
Sincerely,
United States Senator
What is the Census?
The U.S. Census counts every resident, citizen or non-citizen, who resides in the United States. This count is required by our Constitution to take place every 10 years. The 2010 count is taking place now.
Why is the Census Important?
Accurate data reflecting changes in your community is crucial in apportioning seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and deciding how more than $400 billion per year is allocated for projects like new hospitals and schools.
How is the Information Used?
It is important to note that all personal information shared during the Census is confidential and protected by federal law.
