  1. As President Obama said last night, we need to make it easier for folks to vote.

I have a bill called the America Votes Act that would counteract new photo ID laws in many states that threaten to prevent elderly voters and minorities from casting their ballots.

I look forward to working with the President to get this bill passed. Learn more here: http://go.usa.gov/YMJH
  2. Here's the nonpartisan report that Republicans don't want you to see: http://tinyurl.com/9uxatwn

It shows that there's no correlation between tax rates on the highest earners and economic growth. I think it's time to let the Bush tax cuts on the top 2 percent expire. Apparently some in Congress don't even want an informed debate.
  3. The American Red Cross Snohomish County Chapter is sending 5 volunteers to help out with Sandy relief efforts on the East Coast. Snohomish County PUD is sending 10 workers to help get the power back on. Thanks to them and all those working to help the East Coast recover from this terrible storm.
  4. Boeing is expanding its Puget Sound presence, including in Everett, to continue its work on the Air Force tanker. Proud to have played a role in bringing the tanker work to the women and men at Boeing.
  5. Enjoyed speaking to students at Everett High School, Everett WA today. Also had the chance to thank Verna Vogel for her 33 years of service to our public schools. Her last day is next week!

  6. Enjoyed meeting with veterans in Langley today. After our meeting I got a chance to check out the new Fishing Access Network boat that lets disabled veterans get out to fish. It's a great idea and I look forward to seeing vets out using it.

  7. The U.S. Army named their soldier of the year, Sgt. Saral Shrestha. He's a young immigrant from Nepal who wanted to come to the United States so he enlisted in the military. It's a great story, take a look.
  8. I enjoyed my discussion with vets today in Oak Harbor. Just the first of 5 vets meetings this week and next. Tomorrow in Langley. More info at larsen.house.gov.

  9. I'm hosting five round table discussions with veterans over the next two weeks in Oak Harbor, Langley, Everett, Bellingham and Sedro-Woolley.

If you're a veteran, please consider coming to learn and share your thoughts. Also, please share with any veterans you know in Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties. Full details at the link below.
  10. Last week I met a young couple, Capt. Niall Kennedy and his wife, Margeaux. Niall became paralyzed in an Army training accident last year. Now they can't have kids without advanced fertility treatment. But the VA cannot provide that care.

Sen. Patty Murray and I have a bill to fix that. Read more about it here and let me know what you think below: http://go.usa.gov/YKtV

  11. Visiting some Arlington businesses this morning in the new Advanced Manufacturing Park at the old Bayliner/US Marine site. Great to see these businesses prospering and creating jobs in Arlington. Photo is with Ken Turner, the owner of Pacific Tank and Energy.

  13. Just finished a visit to Lister Chain & Forge Inc in Blaine. They're a marine manufacturer, and are currently working on parts for the Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford.

  15. Sen. Patty Murray and I met with two veterans and one active-duty wounded warrior who are all paralyzed due to service-connected injuries. To add insult to injury, the VA does not cover the in vitro fertilization they need in order to start families. Sen. Murray and I have a bill to fix that. Learn about it here: http://go.usa.gov/YKtV
