Washington, DC – A Congressional hearing on Tuesday will review the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) preparedness and response to Hurricane Sandy, receive information about the plan for redevelopment and recovery, and examine the lessons learned by other states impacted by previous disasters.
The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will receive testimony from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). State and local emergency managers from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Galveston, Texas will also provide testimony on their recovery efforts from previous disasters and lessons learned by their recovery efforts that may help inform the recovery process for Hurricane Sandy.
House-passed legislation – H.R. 2903, the FEMA Reauthorization Act of 2012, sponsored by Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Denham (R-CA) – includes reforms that will reduce costs and speed up recovery following a disaster.
