Let's Bring High Skilled Immigrants Into Our Workforce, Grow The Economy, Reunite Families

Posted by Connor Walsh on November 30, 2012

In a editorial syndicated by the McClatchy-Tribune News Service, Majority Leader Eric Cantor discusses the STEM Jobs Act and why this piece of legislation is so vital for growing our economy and creating jobs:

Entrepreneurship and job creation won't kick into high gear until businesses have the workers they need to drive growth and innovation, and immigrants have always been a key part of the equation. Unfortunately, current immigration laws keep foreign-born workers out of America, even after they have earned master's and doctoral degrees from U.S. universities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, where high-skilled workers are desperately needed.

The Land of Opportunity

Posted by Connor Walsh on November 29, 2012

Our immigration system prevents employers from hiring qualified foreign graduates, even those who were educated in the United States, who want to stay in this country. We must act to keep these innovators in America where they can drive entrepreneurship, job creation and economic growth.

On Friday, November 30, the House is considering H.R. 6429, which will award 55,000 visas to foreign graduates of U.S. universities with doctoral and masters degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Leader Cantor Calls On President Obama To Get Serious About Entitlement Reform To Avert Fiscal Cliff

Posted by Connor Walsh on November 28, 2012

Following a meeting of the House Republican Conference, Majority Leader Eric Cantor called on President Obama to get serious about entitlement reform in order to avert the fiscal cliff:

As the Speaker said, we have done our part. We have put revenues on the table, something that we didn't do two years ago during the debt ceiling negotiations. We still believe that it is most important for us to address the economic situation in this country where so many people are out of work. That's why we take the position, and believe strongly, that increasing marginal rates, income tax rates, is not the way to produce growth and to put people back to work.

Leader Cantor Discusses Israel and Pro-Growth Solutions To Fix the Economy

Posted by Connor Walsh on November 26, 2012

In appearances on MSNBC's Morning Joe and Fox News' America's Newsroom, Majority Leader Eric Cantor discussed Israel and pro-growth solutions to reduce the debt:

Raising Taxes Will Not Solve The Spending Problem

We don't think that raising tax rates is something that is good for this economy or that will help grow jobs. We have said there are ways for the federal government to have more revenue if we grow this economy and engage in tax reform. That is the proposal we have on the table. Let's remember what all this is about. You could put taxes at 100 percent on the wealthy and not solve the problem of the spending. We have got to get to the problem and stop digging this hole in terms of spending money we don't have. You're running a trillion dollars of deficit every year. The proposals we put on the table stop that. We're looking at the President to come forward with his ideas.
