  13. Denton police are seeking the public’s help in locating a person driving around impersonating a police officer.

Thursday at 2:10 a.m., police said a female was stopped while driving along Airport Road by what she thought was a police vehicle using emergency lights. While getting her insurance and driver’s license information, the unknown male tried to attack her, according to a news release from ...the police department.

Ryan Grelle, spokesman for Denton police, said in the release that the woman was able to fight back causing the officer to “run back to his vehicle and drive away.”

Since the area where the female was traveling was so dark, police said she was unable to describe the impostor or his vehicle in detail.

The release states he was wearing dark clothing and the vehicle he used had a red and blue light bar.

Police urge drivers to call 911 and drive to a well lit area or the police department if they are leery of who might be pulling them over.

If anyone has any information about this incident or was in the area at the time this occurred, contact Sgt. Bobby Smith at 940-349-7971 or by texting the information to Tip411.

  41. The woman who spun off the Lewisville Lake bridge early Saturday morning has been identified as 21-year-old Kayla Alejandra Gawalek, officials said.
An online search shows she was an honors student studying nursing at North Central Texas College at least as of the past Spring.
Around 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Gawalek was traveling north on Interstate 35E in a gray 2007 Nissan Frontier pickup when her ...she lost control.
Denton County Sheriff William Travis, who's office is investigating the accident, said preliminary reports lead them to suspect the ice-covered highway was the cause of the pickup losing control.
According to witnesses at the scene, the pickup truck went out of control on the bridge, and over the east guardrail into the icy waters of the lake.
Several areas on the bridge had at least two and a half inches of ice, making for treacherous travel conditions that morning, officials said.
The Lewisville Fire Department dive team was able to pull up the truck with the woman still in the driver's side around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said she had no form of identification on her at the time she was pulled from the lake.
Troy Taylor, chief death investigator for Denton County, said the cause of death will be ruled Tuesday after her autopsy is complete.
Icy roads have resulted in the office being backed up with cases, he said.
The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, Travis said.
