National Preparedness Level 1

(On a scale from 1 to 5)

Current hours for the National Fire Information Center are
(MST) 8:00 am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday
208-387-5050

This report will be updated Monday - Friday.

October 16, 2012

The National Preparedness Level was lowered to 1 due to minimal large fire activity and that most GACCs have low to moderate fire danger. The 9 million mark for acres burned year-to-date has almost been met nationally. During the past decade, 2006 is the only year that surpasses this year's acres burned total.

Weather: A strong ridge of high pressure off the California Coast will maintain warm and dry conditions over California, over the Desert Southwest and over the Great Basin. A weak ridge of high
pressure will bring warmer temperatures and low humidity to the Gulf Coast and the East Coast. A cold front will bring a few showers and thunderstorms to the Plain States. A trough will continue to bring cool temperatures and showers to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies.
