DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Two national magazines have named the University of North Texas among the top colleges and universities in the United States based on the number of undergraduate degrees conferred to minority students.

Hispanic Outlook Magazine in Higher Education has presented UNT as one of the Top 100 institutions for Hispanics based on degrees awarded. UNT ranked 33rd in awarding undergraduate degrees and 51st in awarding graduate degrees.

UNT was also named one of America’s Top 100 Degree Producers by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. UNT ranked 33rd in undergraduate degrees in all disciplines for all minority students. UNT’s College of Public Affairs & Community Service (PACS) ranked 2nd in awarding bachelor’s in multi/interdisciplinary studies degrees to all minority students.

Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Administration/ Management

• 5th to African Americans
• 9th to Hispanics
• 13th to Asian Americans

Master’s Degree in Computer and Information Sciences & Support Services

• 44th to all minorities
• 47th to African Americans

Doctorate’s Degree in Education

• 14th to Asian Americans
• 24th to Hispanics
• 25th to Native Americans

During the 2010-2011 school year, a total of 2,099 Hispanic and African-American students earned degrees at UNT, showing increases of 65.32% and 74% respectively from 2006-2007. A total of 10,058 Hispanic and African-American undergraduates were enrolled at UNT during the past school year.

UNT's Hispanic and African-American enrollment has increased dramatically since 2005, reaching 10,799 by the 12th class day of Fall 2012. Hispanic enrollment has increased 86.21% while African-American enrollment has climbed 28.1% since Fall 2005. Today, 30% percent of the approximately 35,836 students at UNT are Hispanic or African-American.
