JPS approves pledge for MD program

The Star-Telegram reported today that the JPS Health Network Board of Directors approved a $2.5 million pledge for a proposed MD program at the Health Science Center.

In November, the UNT Board of Regents voted unanimously to move forward in its intent to offer the program at the Health Science Center. This second medical degree would be separate from and in addition to the DO degree which is conferred through the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) - and is dependent on our raising sufficient funds, establishing a business plan, establishing commitments to TCOM and confirming relationships with local hospitals for student training and instruction.

UNT officials intend to raise $25 million and satisfy the other three conditions before seeking the state Legislature's approval for the MD program.
