Pagán, Treviño named to School of Public Health faculty

The School of Public Health has named José A. Pagán, Ph.D., chair for the Department of Health Management and Policy, and  SPH Alumna  Elizabeth (Liz) Treviño Dawson, DrPH, assistant dean for Curriculum.

José A. Pagán, PhD, joins the Health Science Center from The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, where he served as professor of economics in the Department of Economics and Finance and director of the school's Institute for Population Health Policy since 2005. Pagán, who taught for UT Pan American for the last 14 years, also has served as director of the school's Center for Border Economic Studies.  Additionally, he served as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholar for the Wharton School and School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, from 2003 to 2005.

Pagán received his PhD in economics from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque.

Elizabeth (Liz) Treviño Dawson, DrPH, will work with the School of Public Health's Master of Health Administration and enhanced Doctor of Public Health degree programs.

Treviño Dawson completed both her Master and Doctor of Public Health degrees at the Health Science Center. While completing her studies, she worked as a consumer health specialist for the City of Fort Worth Health Department. She also served in various research and staff roles at the Health Science Center, including five years as coordinator for the  Texas Public Health Training Center, a workforce training program in collaboration with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Texas A&M Health Science Center's School of Rural Public Health.  Most recently, she served as health equity manager for Baylor Health Care System, Dallas, studying, reporting on and designing solutions to health disparities in hospital care delivery and patient outcomes.
