Articles about the University of North Texas Health Science Center have been featured in several local and national publications recently. Along with the Health Science Center's study of adding a possible MD degree to its offerings, medical student "Match Day," the effect of the current economy on healthcare and partnerships between the Health Science Center were at the forefront of the news.

Local news outlets continue to follow the study into the possibility of the Health Science Center adding an MD (medical doctor) degree to its catalog. The Fort Worth Business Press interviewed Don Peska, DO, associate dean for education programs for the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, for an article examining why the option was being studied. A follow-up to the public meeting held by the UNT System Board of Regents was also posted. The Business Press featured "Match Day" by examining the process by which medical students are "matched" to residency programs.

At around the same time, the Star-Telegram ran an article about alumni opposition to the possible MD degree. A follow-up to the Board of Regents meeting was printed the day after the meeting.

Kristine Lykens, PhD, assistant professor of Health Policy and Management, provided expert commentary on the possibility families hit hard financially by the current recession may get needed healthcare through extra Medicaid funds for the State of Texas provided by President Barack Obama's stimulus package in a Dallas Business Journal article.

New findings about the impact of the economy on mortality announced by Harvey Brenner, PhD, professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences, appeared in the Dallas Morning News, MSN Money, Forbes.com, Reuters, AOL Money News, Healthcare Industry Today, TecTrends, Yahoo! Politics and business journals across the country. The findings were printed in approximately 190 outlets. Brenner was also featured in an interview on WBAP radio as an expert on the effect the current recession could have on the country's mortality rate.

An article in the  Star-Telegram about the unique role TECH Fort Worth plays in helping new and fledgling biotechnology companies grow included the Health Science Center as a partner in this unique business incubator. TECH Fort Worth's Acceleration Lab is located on the Health Science Center campus.
