PACE TO HOST 25TH ANNUAL DR. STANLEY WEISS PRIMARY CARE UPDATE
The Office of Professional and Continuing Education at the University of North Texas Health Science Center will sponsor the 25th Annual Dr. Stanley Weiss Primary Care Update June 22-26 at the Sheraton South Padre Beach Hotel in South Padre Island.
This year’s theme is “Pearls For Primary Care.” Participants will have the chance to discuss the latest issues facing primary care providers; apply new practices and methods in patient diagnosis treatment and management; and employ valid assessment tools and screening tests to evaluate common clinical problems.
In addition, attending physicians can earn a maximum of 24 category one credits toward the American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that are actually spent in the activity.
“This is one of the few conferences in Texas that offers Category 1A from the American Osteopathic Association and Category 1 toward the Physician Recognition Award of the American Medical Association,” associate vice president of PACE, Pam McFadden, said.
Monte Troutman, D.O., chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and associate director for the Division of Gastroenterology at the health science center, and Richard Winn, M.D., professor of internal medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine and chief of the Division of Critical Care and Pulmonology for the Scott & White Clinic, will serve as chairmen for the program.
David Orr, D.O., assistant professor of neurology in the Department of Internal Medicine at the health science center, and Lisa Smith, MLS, are one of the eight faculty that will present information on topics ranging from the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s and dementia to ethical issues in primary care.
“In the very early years, Dr. Stanley Weiss, the conference’s first chair, made the decision that this would be a family oriented conference that was very inclusive,” McFadden said. “Today, 25 years later, this conference is one of our most popular-both for the education it provides and the activities it offers the family.”
Other special activities planned include a luau, bay fishing tournament and golf tournament.
