UNT SYSTEM INVITES PROPOSALS FOR A MASTER PLANNER AND ARCHITECT FOR THE EXPANDED HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER CAMPUS

me1.jpg The University of North Texas System has issued a request for qualifications to find a master planner for the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

The UNT Health Science Center will be working with a master planner to determine the best use of the property formerly known as the Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas, located at 1000 Montgomery Street in Fort Worth, and to integrate that newly acquired property into the existing HSC campus. The request will also include the opportunity to be the architect for the first building on the new property.

“We’d like to attract firms or teams that include both planning and architectural expertise and health facility experience,” said Rich Escalante, vice chancellor for administrative services at the UNT System, who will lead the planning process selection and community involvement.

Potential contractors will have until June 10 to submit their qualifications. After that date, an advisory committee made up of representatives from the Fort Worth community and Health Science Center and System employees will recommend a master planning team and continue to provide advice during the planning process. The final recommendation of a master planner will be made by Ronald Blanck, DO, president of the Health Science Center, to Lee Jackson, chancellor of the UNT System.

After a master planner has been chosen, a series of three public meetings will be held at the Health Science Center, where residents and business owners in the community share their ideas and concerns with the planning team and advisory committee.

Some residents in the North Hi-Mount, Monticello and Arlington Heights communities close to the property have received a letter from Dr. Blanck about the development of a master plan. Other residents in the area are welcome to participate.

The entire process is anticipated to take at least six months from the approval of a contract.
