FORT WORTH, Texas— The Modeling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand has honored a local professor by naming him a fellow. Karan Singh, PhD, chair and professor of biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, is one of three fellows honored this year.

Researchers use modeling and simulation to better understand behavior and natural phenomenon through the use of mathematics and scientific study.

Singh is also the director of the school’s Center for Biostatistical Consulting, which assists researchers with statistical design, data management, analysis and the interpretation of results. Singh joined the health science center in 2000 as a professor in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics.

The society also honored Singh in 2001 with its Outstanding Service award. His areas of interest include survival methodology, cancer modeling, environmental risk assessment, longitudinal data analysis and statistical computing.

Fellows are recognized for their unselfish dedication to the aims of the society as well as for their contributions to modeling and simulation. The society chooses its fellows on a biennial basis from an international pool of nominees.

The society has more than 500 members from 50 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Members are from a wide range of professional disciplines including hydrology, agricultural science, economics, engineering, atmospheric science and ecology.
