UNT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER SEEKS ART ENTRIES FOR ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITON

FORT WORTH, Texas—The University of North Texas Health Science Center announces a call for entries for the Annual 12-County High School Art Competition.

Since 1985, talented high school juniors and seniors have displayed their works in painting, printmaking, mixed media, three-dimensional art, color drawing, black/white drawing, photography, computer art and ceramics. Each year, the competition receives more than 1,500 entries from 120 school districts and private schools. Public and private school students in Brown, Comanche, Cook, Denton, Eastland, Erath, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant and Wise counties are eligible to participate.

The competition awards cash prizes for first, second and third place, with Asel Art Supply matching the amounts with gift certificates. Ribbons are awarded for fourth through honorable mention. One student’s artwork will be selected by the health science center’s art department to be used on the 2003 invitation. That student will receive $50 plus a plaque.

There is a fee of $3 per entry, with a four entry maximum. Entries are received April 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and judging is on April 7. The award ceremony is at 2 p.m. April 21 at the health science center’s atrium gallery.

Recognized as North Texas’ largest and most prestigious event for senior portfolios, it is scouted annually by representatives from major universities. Each year, at least one to two students win full scholarships to continue their art education as a result of this competition.

The UNT Health Science Center’s spectacular three-story Atrium Gallery plays host to the event. It is located at 3500 Camp Bowie Blvd., at the corner of Montgomery Street.
