UNT Health Science Center Publishes Medical Quarterly

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth has launched a quarterly publication intended to provide practical medical information free to subscribers, and to explain the institution's mission and role in the region.

The Health & Science Quarterly's first issue was mailed this week to some 7,000 readers in Texas, including patients, legislators, business leaders, donors and alumni of the health science center's Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

The health science center's associate vice president for advancement, Tom Gore, said that the publication "is intended to dismantle our stubborn reputation for being Fort Worth's best-kept secret. It's up to us to tell how our education, research and patient care initiatives benefit the public, and Health & Science Quarterly is one way we can do it."

The 12-page newsletter's first edition covers the UNT Health Science Center's involvement in a major Alzheimer's Disease research project, treatment advances introduced by members of the institution's Physicians & Surgeons Medical Group, and other recent developments at the health science center's campus in Fort Worth.

Laura Brown Squires, a former journalist, is executive editor of Health & Science Quarterly. The newsletter is printed by Cockrell Printing Co. of Fort Worth.
