UNTHSC in the news

The UNT Health Center's Sid O'Bryant, PhD, and Liz Trevino, PhD, were interviewed by KXAS' Deborah Ferguson in August about their research on Alzheimer's disease in Hispanics. Dr. O'Bryant helped develop a blood test to detect Alzheimer's disease. The story aired on Oct. 9 and went online Oct. 26.

Rhonda Roby, PhD, is profiled in the November issue of D Magazine. Read it to discover why she was one of a handful of people jetting to Ground Zero after all flights were grounded on 9/11. Clue: she is one of the top DNA experts in the world.

UNT System College of Pharmacy Dean Mike Jacobson was on the WFAA Channel 8 news October 8 discussing pharmaceutical and drug oversight in light of the recent meningitis outbreak as a result of tainted steroid injections.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) joined Arthur Eisenberg, PhD, and a rape victim/advocate in lobbying for the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Registry Act when he visited the UNTHSC campus on Sept. 17. WFAA and KXTX aired the story Sept. 17.

Dr. John Schetz was featured on WBAP with Ellie Hogue and on KXTX with Steve Ray as zebra mussels invade water sources in North Texas, threatening to choke off our water supply. Dr. Schetz' research into paints that will keep the mussels from adhering to man-made surfaces could be an answer to the infestation.
