During this Fall 2012 semester, the art students in Elaine Pawlowicz Drawing II course have been experimenting with GPS technology as they come to understand Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space.

There is still plenty of time to help support the collegiate artists of the University of North Texas on their pursuit towards $1000 in scholarship money.  During this Fall 2012 semester, the art students in Elaine Pawlowicz Drawing II course have been experimenting with GPS technology as they come to understand Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space.  These students created two drawings. The inspired category is the result of the students taking their raw GPS drawings and incorporating their own interpretation of space, our homes, and how the world affect us.  Poetics of Space topics include: House and Universe, Miniature Worlds, Shells, Secrets, Darkness, Hidden Spaces, Corners, Infinite Immensity and Nests.  The GPS Art Project all began in August, when Track What Matters CEO, Steven Van Ooyen collaborated with UNT art professor, Elaine Pawlowicz on this new media art project.  Steven Van Ooyen stated, “This opens up the idea that anything can be your canvas. It is also our way to give back to the community, and promote the students of the UNT art department.”  Official voting has already begun, and the winners will be decided by the end of the semester. Please support these collegiate artists by viewing their work, and voting on your favorites by visiting the voting site.  Track What Matters, LLC, a DFW based GPS Fleet Management provider, is sponsoring the $1000 scholarships and the online competition in support of the students project.
