The Burle Marx Trio is dedicated to performing and recording a wide variety of traditional and contemporary chamber music, especially music of the Americas. Founded as a piano trio in 1976 by cellist Madalena Burle Marx, the name of the Trio pays tribute to Madalena's father Walter Burle Marx, a renowned Brazilian composer, conductor, pianist and advocate of Brazilian music. Reinaugurated in 2004 with Louisiana musicians who have all lived and worked in Brazil, the Burle Marx Trio brings to audiences a highly personal view of music from the diverse cultures of the Western Hemisphere.
The Trio's first concerts at LSU in November of 2004 featured new works by Brazilian composer Liduino Pitombeira and U.S. composer Daniel DeLange. Demo tracks from The Burle Marx Trio in concert at LSU (Iguana Press, 2004), are available in mp3 format through this link.
The Trio's first CD, Songs of Innocence & Experience (Jeanné Digital, 2002), includes 20th Century Brazilian chamber music for oboe, cello and piano from the Burle Marx Brazilian Music Collection at the University of Akron.
The Trio often expands their repertoire with the addition of piano, harpsichord, viola, flute, oboe d'amore, English horn and voice. In 2005 the Burle Marx Trio received a Louisian Division of the Arts Project Assistance Grant to inaugurate the Pelican State Chamber Music Series, a series of 12 concerts and educational programs in Baton Rouge and New Roads, LA. The Trio provides the artistic direction for the Series and performs on most of the concerts, along with colleagues from LSU and around the nation.
