Although there are many definitions of clinical trials, they are generally considered to be biomedical or health-related research studies in human beings that follow a pre-defined protocol.

The National Institutes of Health provides a Web site called ClinicalTrials.gov that offers up-to-date information for locating federally and privately supported clinical trials in the United States and around the world for a wide range of diseases and conditions. There are currently more than 60,000 clinical trials listed in the searchable database, hundreds of which focus on epilepsy. The database is searchable by search term, location, topic and category.
