Helicopter fly-in will show emergency medicine in action
Collaboration will be in the air on Nov. 28 when a medevac helicopter lands on the Medical Education and Training building lawn at the UNT Health Science Center. Aboard will be a full crew – emergency medical technician, nurse and physician, ready to show UNTHSC students how they work.

UNTHSC’s DNA identification work resolves search for missing loved ones
When someone you love is missing, the holidays lose their shine, and hearts ache from not knowing their fate. Through funding provided by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the UNT Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) and NamUs (the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System) at the UNT Health Science Center continue to help law enforcement agencies across the U.S. identify missing persons and give families the resolution that has eluded many of them for decades.
School of Public Health debuts accelerated online courses
You can be anywhere in the world and never miss class. UNTHSC's School of Public Health is the first in Texas to offer an accelerated online Master of Public Health Professional Option. You can complete a course in just eight weeks instead of the usual 16.
UNTHSC leader speaks out on impact of reform on women’s health care
UNT Health Science Center Ob/Gyn Chairman Ralph Anderson, MD, spoke this morning at a symposium on women's health care about "The Impact of the Affordable Health Care Act on Women's Health Care."
Book drive helps reading program at UNTHSC pediatrics department
UNT Health Science Center PA students collected more than 400 books, which will be distributed at well-child visits at UNT Health clinics and other Fort Worth-area clinics.

UNTHSC Thanksgiving holiday schedule
The UNT Health Science Center will be closed for Thanksgiving break Nov. 22-24. Administrative offices will re-open at 8 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25.
New research aims to reverse the damage caused by cardiac hypertrophy
People who have stress, high blood pressure or aortic stenosis, in which the aortic valve cannot open fully, are more prone to hypertrophy, which is an abnormal thickening and enlargement of the heart muscle. This can eventually result in congestive heart failure and death. Joseph Yuan, PhD, assistant professor of Integrative Physiology, is working to determine which genes cause cardiac hypertrophy.
Video: UNT System College of Pharmacy in the spotlight
The UNT Health Science Center celebrated the brand new UNT System College of Pharmacy (admitting students in the Fall of 2013) at its annual gala at the Worthington in Fort Worth on Nov.10. The new pharmacy school will be the first one in North Texas and the first pharmacy school in the state to be located on a health science center campus, which will create richer medical and health care education and collaboration.

Women’s health care symposium offers new perspectives on trends and controversies
Wellness, adolescent sexual health, diabetes in pregnancy, prematurity prevention -- these topics and more are all on deck starting Thursday, Nov. 15, at the three-day 24th annual Pelham P. Staples, Jr., MD, Educational Symposium, located at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel (near the ballpark).
UNT Health advocates a team approach to older adults’ care
The problems of aging can be complicated, often requiring a team approach. UNT Health, the physician faculty practice of the UNT Health Science Center, is uniquely equipped to assist.
UNT Health Center for Sleep Medicine attains accreditation
The UNT Health Center for Sleep Medicine helps create solutions for a healthier community by addressing a common ailment. At least 40 million Americans have a chronic sleep disorder, and 20 million more sometimes have trouble with sleep, according to the National Institutes of Health.
UNTHSC plays a role in solving 37-year-old cold case
Using a sophisticated database called NamUs (National Missing and Unidentified Persons System) the UNT Health Science Center helped solve the decades-old missing-person case.
UNTHSC and TARCC are working to improve early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease
The UNT Health Science Center is one of five partners in the Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium (TARCC), which also includes the Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Science Center, UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and UT Southwestern Medical Center. TARCC is working to improve early diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
TCOM students top their peers nationally on licensing tests
Again this year, students in the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) excelled on physician licensing exams.
