The consulting services offered by the Office of Sustainability enable businesses and municipalities to achieve their sustainability goals by helping business and community leaders create meaningful change in the three areas that impact sustainability.
Social
The Office of Sustainability can educate business and community leaders how to create and manage sustainability programs that create both awareness and concern for sustainability issues.
Environmental
The Office of Sustainability can provide business and community leaders the tools and strategies needed to understand the impact of their decisions on the environment.
Economic
The Office of Sustainability can help business and community leaders reduce their bottom line through methods of energy saving, waste reduction, and sustainable purchasing.
Carbon Emissions Tracking
- Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory (GHG) - A GHG provides organizations with a comprehensive base-‐line on aggregate emissions measurement. The basic categories that are measured include waste, recycling, water, chemical use, transportation, and energy consumption. Additional categories can be added or removed based upon the amount of available data and the complexity of scope.
- Through our experience monitoring and measuring the carbon emissions of an entire University, we can help businesses and city managers establish a baseline carbon footprint from which to gauge progress. Monitoring of emissions not only creates an understanding of environmental impact, but it also reduces the bottom line by highlighting improvements that can be made in the areas of: recycling, energy efficiency and waste reduction.
Sustainable Strategies and Programs
- The Office of Sustainability can work with community and business leaders to develop practical methods for implementing sustainable policies.
- A Sustainability Certification Program is an incentive-‐based program that promotes sustainable behavior change within an organization. Incentives can be determined with assistance from managers and supervisors. The program can exist at the individual, team, or unit level.
- The Office of Sustainability has successfully designed and implemented a sustainability reporting program that is used campus wide and we can work to train a program coordinator or manager within the organization to maintain management of sustainability programs.
- A successful program will not only help reduce operating costs but will also educate employees with regards to the benefits of sustainable practices.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (L.E.E.D.) Consultation
- The Office of Sustainability has L.E.E.D. certified associates who can offer certified L.E.E.D. consulting for new construction projects and existing buildings. This service also encompasses integrating Sustainable Strategies and Programs.
Energy Efficiency
- The Office of Sustainability has experience in both reducing energy usage and in creating alternative sustainable energy sources. Utilizing a team of experts, the Office of Sustainability can facilitate energy-monitoring programs that identify areas of energy inefficiency, suggesting recommendations to increase efficiency.
