Marisa Cisco
Supervisor, Patient Services
UNT Health Business Office

How long have you worked here, and what did you do before joining UNT Health?
This is my second time to work for UNTHSC.  I previously worked in Internal Medicine for three years when I first began in the medical field. Since then, I worked for Cook Children's Behavioral Health and TERM Billing before returning to the Health Science Center in June 2004.

What are your job duties as supervisor of Patient Services?
There is never a typical work day in the Business Office.  We face new challenges every day.  My primary duty is to ensure that Patient Services is providing excellent service to our internal and external customers.  Patient Services handles incoming and outgoing calls to resolve patient accounts and processes both insurance and patient refunds.

Is there anything about your department that your fellow faculty, staff and students may not know?
The UNT Health Business Office is the centralized billing office for the UNT Health physicians.  We have teams that are responsible for payment posting, claims processing, insurance follow up, guarantor collections, and maintenance of the SMS billing system.  We are here to provide any guidance for anyone who has billing or insurance questions.

The Health Science Center’s values are compassion, integrity, excellence, pride, innovation and teamwork. Can you give an example of how your coworkers demonstrate one of these values?
The Business Office works diligently to go the extra mile to ensure that patient satisfaction is obtained.  We promote a teamwork environment not only within the May Street team members, but we extend our teamwork to include the clinics of UNT Health.

What's the best part about working at UNT Health?
The best part of working for UNT Health is the people and the opportunities that we are given.  I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Leadership Development Institute and the Service Excellence initiative.

What do you like to do when you aren't at work?
I love to spend time with my family. I have three sons who keep me very busy.  They are ages 12, 10, and 1. My oldest two are very active in Little League baseball which consumes most of my free time. I love every minute of it. I am also an avid NASCAR fan. (Go Dale Jr.!)

Is there any other information that you would like to share with the campus community?
I would like to thank all of my fellow co-workers in the Business Office for their hard work. I also would like the Patient Services team to know that I am very proud of them and appreciate all that they do.  I encourage anyone who has not been to the May Street office to come by and visit us, we love to put a name with the face and meet new people.UNTHSC end logo
