UNT planetarium to offer inexpensive shows for children in July

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The Sky Theater at UNT is offering families the chance to escape the heat this summer, with a new planetarium show each Friday in July.
The Summer Fun in the Planetarium series is designed for children ages 6 to 12-years. The shows will be begin at 11:30 a.m. on July 6, 13, 20 and 27. Tickets are only $3 per person.
This year's shows are:
July 6 - "The Little Star That Could" is a story about Little Star, an average yellow star in search for planets of his own to protect and warm.
July 13 - In the "Seasons Reasons Show" Marvin Short, Jake Jupiter and Laura Twist tell us about weather, the water cycle, clouds, seasons, constellations, and the moon.
July 20 - Solar System Tours is a guided tour of the solar system in which students enjoy close-up views of all the planets on the Sky Theater's dome.
July 27 - Dinosaur Passage to Pangaea is a stop-motion, 3D animated adventure explaining one of the greatest geological events in the history of the Earth: the separation of the supercontinent Pangaea.
The planetarium seats 100 guests and is equipped with a full-color, HD projection system. Its 40-foot domed ceiling features the Digistar III projection system that reproduces the night sky in astonishing detail.
The Sky Theater is open for regular presentations at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturdays. The theater currently is showing "Are We Alone," a show that examines the possibility of life on other planets.
