According to research by the UNTHSC Center for Community Health, in conjunction with Cook Children's Health Care System and the Mental Health Association of Tarrant County, approximately 7 to 12 percent of North Texas children suffer from some type of emotional or behavioral issue, and the prevalence for the local African American community is 8.5 percent. Keynote speaker will be Alwyn Cohall, MD, director of the Harlem Health Promotion Center, one of 37 national Prevention Research Centers established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to bridge academia and vulnerable communities.
