Yurvati named Healthcare Hero

Albert Yurvati, DOAlbert Yurvati, DO ('86), chair and professor of Surgery, was named a 2011 Healthcare Hero by the Fort Worth Business Press. He was honored at an awards dinner Thursday evening at the Fort Worth Club. This is Yurvati's second time to receive the honor.

Yurvati, known nationally and internationally for his work and research, sees patients, performs complicated cardiovascular surgery, teaches medical students and leads cutting-edge research that may save lives and improve lives of many in the future. His association as a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde at Glasgow, Scotland, demonstrates the universal value of his knowledge, and he donates his time and expertise to local community efforts, including serving as the chief medical officer for The Cowtown

He is the chairman of the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (AOBS) and also serves as a National Cardiovascular and Thoracic Board representative to the AOBS, as well as the chairman of the board. He is on numerous committees for the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and on the directorial board of the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association and Filtration. He serves as a reviewer for many peered journals, including Cardiovascular Research, Experimental Biology and Medicine, Perfusion, American Journal of Physiology and the Annals of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

Yurvati recently demonstrated his commitment to his alma mater, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, with a personal gift in support of its efforts to train the next generation of osteopathic physicians.
