UNTHSC partnership brings wellness products to working adults

TechFW_AccLab2.jpg The National Institutes of Health has awarded grants totaling $400,000 to Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems (OWLS) in Fort Worth, a science-based consulting and training service, to develop two e-health wellness products.

OWLS was founded by Joel Bennett and focuses on the health and well-being of working adults for better workplace productivity and family life. It is also a client of TECH Fort Worth, a nonprofit business incubator which has a strategic affiliation with the UNT Health Science Center. OWLS, along with other qualified TECH Fort Worth clients, are eligible for supportive assistance from the Health Science Center to help them reach their success and they were recently featured in the Fort Worth Business Press.

In addition to utilizing the Health Science Center Institutional Review Board, qualified clients such as OWLS are able to use UNTHSC expertise in the increasingly complex world of research with human subjects. Brian Gladue, PhD, director of the Office for the Protection of Human Subjects, provides research design and regulatory guidance to clients working with human subjects. Qualified clients can also access support from the Office of Clinical Trials. Michael Bergamini, PhD, director of Clinical Trials, facilitates relationships between UNTHSC physicians and startup companies. He also reviews clinical trial protocols, and provides to the companies advice about costs, possible regulatory issues, and potential collaborative opportunities with the Health Science Center.

These kinds of support services, among others, are provided to qualified TECH Fort Worth clients, allowing the companies to dedicate their time and effort to developing innovative technologies that will affect the environment, empower the community and improve health care.
