Health Science Center supports new Cowtown program for children
The Health Science Center once again is sponsoring The Cowtown multi-event road race, with an expanded children's running program in 2010. The new C.A.L.F. (Children's Activities for Life & Fitness) Program educates children about and promotes the importance of creating a healthy life style through physical fitness and nutrition.
Although the Health Science Center and The Cowtown have always emphasized the importance of good physical fitness, the C.A.L.F Program takes that initiative one step further by working with local schools and community centers to teach proper running, training and nutrition to youth in the area. The program will also raise funds to provide the race entry fees for the Kids 5K and proper running shoes for students in need. The goal of the C.A.L.F. Program is to keep kids active throughout the year, not just leading up to The Cowtown.
The Cowtown races will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, in downtown Fort Worth. The Health Science Center will staff expo booths in the Big Tent at the corner of 4th Street and Main Street. As the medical sponsor, UNT Health physicians will provide on-site treatment for runners, as well as osteopathic manipulation.
