UNT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER CELEBRATES NATIONAL PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT WEEK

UNT Health Science Center, along with physician assistants around the U.S., will celebrate National Physician Assistant Week Oct. 6-12. Created by the American Academy of Physician Assistants in 2004, National PA Week honors all PAs for the quality care they provide to millions of Americans.

Students from the PA program at the health science center will participate in several activities during PA Week, including a free PA informational luncheon from noon to 1 p.m., Oct. 7 in Luibel Hall.

PAs are licensed health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural and urban settings. Some of their duties include conducting physical exams, diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting tests, providing counsel on preventive health care, assisting in surgery, and prescribing medications.

According to the AAPA, there are more than 55, 000 PAs across the world. To find out more information about PAs, contact the department at 817-735-2301.
