FAIRCHILD NAMED DELEGATE TO WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE ON AGING
Thomas Fairchild, PhD, associate vice president for institutional planning, was named as a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, which will take place in Washington, D.C., Dec. 11 - 14.
Dr. Fairchild will be one of 42 delegates who will represent the Texas at the conference. He was named to the delegation by Rep. Kay Granger.
“It is a great honor to represent older Texans and to have the opportunity to work with other delegates from fields such as healthcare, education, human services and government from across the United States to develop resolutions on healthy living and community supports for aging well in America over the next decade,” Dr. Fairchild said.
Twelve hundred delegates from throughout the country will participate in the conference, which is the fifth such conference on aging. Delegates will vote on resolutions and develop implementation strategies to help the President George Bush and the Congress shape aging policies for the next 10 years and beyond.
The theme for the 2005 conference is “The Booming Dynamics of Aging: From Awareness to Action.” The 2005 commission is mandated by the Older Americans Act to focus on the interests and needs of current seniors as well as the 78 million Baby Boomers who will begin to turn 60 in 2006.
