ROJAS RECEIVES COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD FROM UNT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER'S SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
Zeida Rojas, MPH, received the Leon Brachman Community Service Award from the University of North Texas Health Science Center.The award is given to the School of Public Health student who best exemplifies the ideals of academic excellence, leadership and community service. The honor is accompanied by a $250 monetary award as well as a plaque to be displayed on the health science center campus.
Rojas is a native of Fort Worth, and currently resides in Fort Worth. She is a graduate of University of Texas at Austin, holding a bachelor of arts degree in Hispanic studies. She earned a master of public health degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Rojas began her association with the health science center as a volunteer at the Northside Family Practice Clinic. While a pre-med student at the University of Texas at Austin, she spent the summer at the health science center as a McNair Scholar. She also completed an epidemiology internship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and an internship with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities last summer. She was also selected as a Minority K through 12 Initiative for Teachers and Students fellow by the health science center’s Office of Outreach.
Rojas received the award at the School of Public Health’s annual awards banquet on May 6.
