Thomas Yorio, PhD, executive vice president for Academic Affairs and Research, has been named provost of the UNT Health Science Center. Dr. Yorio will serve as chief academic officer for the Health Science Center and will provide overall direction for all academic programs and research.

As provost, Dr. Yorio will also promote the coordination of schools, key programs and initiatives across campus and will foster effective communication to ensure that academic and research initiatives fully support the Health Science Center's strategic plan.

Since joining the Health Science Center in 1977, Dr. Yorio has held several positions including professor of Pharmacology and Neuroscience, founding dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and interim dean of the School of Public Health.
