What are the pre-pharmacy prerequisite course requirements for UNT System College of Pharmacy?

What are other requirements for admission?
Applicants will also need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals who can assess their potential for the program.
Do you accept prerequisite coursework from community colleges?
Yes, we accept prerequisite coursework from any U.S. accredited 2-year College.
I completed my prerequisite coursework outside of the United States, will you accept these courses?
No, all prerequisite coursework must be completed at an accredited U.S. institution.
My prerequisite coursework is several years old; can I still use these courses?
Science and Math courses cannot be over ten (10) years old. There are no age restrictions on the general education courses.
Do I have to complete all coursework before I apply?
Math and science courses must be completed and official transcripts submitted no later than May 30, 2013.
General course requirements must be completed and official transcripts submitted no later than July 3, 2013.
Will AP or CLEP credits be accepted toward the prerequisite requirements?
Advanced Placement (AP) credit or College Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit that appears on the applicant’s official college or university transcript will count toward prerequisite coursework.
Can I submit my transcripts for evaluation?
No, at this time we are not accepting transcripts for evaluation. If you have specific questions about a course, contact pharmd@unthsc.edu
May I schedule an appointment with an advisor to review my transcript(s)?
At this time we are not meeting with students to evaluate transcripts. If you are still at a 2-year college or 4-year university, work with your academic advisor on any prerequisite coursework questions.
Do I need a bachelor’s degree to apply?
No, but you must complete all necessary prerequisites.
If I have a prior baccalaureate degree or higher degree, will any of the prerequisite requirements not yet fulfilled be waived?
Yes, the general education requirements will be waived.
If I hold a prior baccalaureate degree or higher in a field other than pharmacy, and I am interested in the Pharm.D. Program, am I still eligible to apply?
Yes. Regardless of what prior degree you hold, you may apply. You must complete all prerequisite courses by entry into the Pharm.D. program.
Are you admitting transfer students from other Colleges of Pharmacy?
Transfer students will be considered for acceptance after 2016, when all four years of coursework are being offered.
How good must my grades be for admission into the program?
Applicants will be assessed on a number of criteria and must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 in the prerequisite courses.

Is the PCAT required for admission?
Yes. The PCAT (Pharmacy College Admissions Test) is required for admissions into the Pharm.D. Program. The MCAT, GRE, or any other admissions test is not accepted.
When should I take the PCAT?
The PCAT should be taken no later than any of the September exams dates prior to the year that you are seeking admission. For example, if you are seeking admission for fall 2013, you must take the PCAT exam no later than the September 2012 test date. Test scores taken later than September 2012 will not be considered for the inaugural class.
Where do I submit my PCAT scores?
PCAT services will route/forward your scores to us when you use our school designation code.
Where do I send my official transcripts?
Instructions for submitting your transcripts will be provided when you apply for admission. Please make sure you read transcript submission instructions very carefully.
I took my PCAT several years ago, will you accept these scores?
We will not accept PCAT scores older than three (3) years.

When can I apply?
To apply to the UNT System College of Pharmacy we will utilize our online application system. We anticipate application will be ready by mid-fall 2012. We will NOT use PharmCAS for the first entering class - August 2013.
How much is the application fee?
$50.00, non refundable PharmD application processing fee - payable by Money Order or Cashier's Check and made payable to UNTHSC. Mailing address will be listed on the online application.
I am an international student, can I apply?
Admission to the UNT System College of Pharmacy is open to all individuals who have permanent U.S. residency status.
How important is it that I have a pharmacy technician certification or an actual job in a pharmacy prior to applying?
While it is not necessary to have a Pharmacy Technician certification or an actual job in a pharmacy prior to applying, it would be helpful to know something about the profession.
How long will it take to graduate?
The Pharm.D. program is a four (4) year program.
Could you describe the curriculum?
The specifics of the curriculum are in development. In general, however the Pharm.D. curriculum will be a mix of classroom and laboratory instruction, as well as pharmacy practice experiences, in which students will work in local pharmacies, hospitals, etc. Because the program will be delivered at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, we are also designing the curriculum so that pharmacy students will have the opportunity to work with students training in other areas of health care, such as medical students, physician assistant students, and physical therapy students.
How many students will be admitted?
We plan to enroll 80 students in the first class in fall 2013, with class size expanding to 100 students in 2014 and to 100 in 2015, at which point we expect the class size to stabilize.
Will you offer online courses?
No distance learning courses will be offered.
Will I be able to work and go to school?
No. It is not recommended due to the rigorous curriculum.
Can I be a part-time student?
No.
What is your tuition?
In-State - per year: Approximate - $14,480 (tuition only)
Out-of-State - per year: Approximate - $28,520 (tuition only)
Can I apply for financial aid?
Yes.
Will scholarships be available?
A limited number of UNTHSC scholarships will be available.
Is housing available for students?
No, but students may find housing information at the Official Off-Campus Housing Listing Service offered for the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

The UNT System College of Pharmacy is in the process of becoming accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Pharmacy Education. The College will not be fully accredited until it graduates its first class in spring 2017.
