FINANCIAL AID SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS (SAP)

To maintain eligibility for consideration of all forms of financial aid, students must meet satisfactory academic progress.  Federal satisfactory academic progress standards require a minimum average grade of an overall “C” or grade point average of 2.0 and 75% completion of attempted hours. Students must complete their course of study within 150% of the required hours for that course of study. 

Policy: HSC is required by federal and state regulations to monitor the academic progress toward degree completion of all students receiving financial assistance. 

Procedure: Academic progress requirements which exceed federal standards are set by each academic program. HSC students are considered to be making satisfactory academic progress as long as they are meeting the academic requirements set forth by their program of study. Students must be making satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for financial aid.  Academic progress is monitored by the Registrar’s Office in conjunction with individual school personnel and is reviewed by the Office of Financial Aid on a term by term basis. (A student’s academic progress will be reviewed at the end of each enrolled term.)

The Financial Aid Office (FAO) is notified of any student not meeting SAP by receiving a copy of the letter sent to the student.

Effective July 1^st, 2011students not maintaining satisfactory academic progress will be placed accordingly by the Director of OFA:

1. Financial Aid Warning - eligible for financial aid for one payment term
2. Financial Aid Probation - may be eligible for financial aid for one payment term (requires appeal letter from student to FAO for approval) 
3. Academic Plan - may be eligible for financial aid each payment term if successfully completes set requirements as developed by the individual program (requires appeal letter from student to FAO for approval) 
4. If a student is dismissed, the FAO will review the student’s account to determine if the student needs to complete an Exit Interview and if an R2T4 needs to be completed.

Students will be sent a letter to explain his/her financial aid SAP status. If a student is placed on Academic Probation after term’s census date by their school, an FA Warning/Probation/Academic Plan will be placed on the next enrolled term. (Final decision based on information provided from school of reason why student is on Academic Probation.)
