Dr. Reyes-Loya joined the Center June 2012, as a Research Scientist. From 1998-2004, he operated his own business before deciding to pursue further education. While completing his MS degree at UTEP, he worked as teaching assistant in the Economics and Finance Department, as graduate assistant in the Center for Inter-American and Border Studies, and as research assistant with the Economics and Finance faculty. He also worked briefly in the public sector in Mexico with the Ministry of Economics before enrolling in the doctoral program at New Mexico State University. Most recently, Manuel was a research assistant with the Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University, where he assisted on economic development and economic impact projects for the US Department of Energy and the state of New Mexico. In 2011, he also completed a 6-month internship at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch. Manuel’s research areas include taxes, violence, immigration, border economics, economic development, and trade.
