National group renews approval of College of Education

The College of Education has received reaccreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, known as NCATE.

The College of Education was in the first group of colleges accredited by the NCATE in 1954, and is one of 12 programs currently accredited in Texas. NCATE accreditation is a voluntary peer review process that involves a comprehensive evaluation of the program seeking accreditation. The process included an on-site review of the college. NCATE Accreditation is good for seven years.

The College of Education has four departments:

  • counseling and higher education
  • educational psychology
  • kinesiology, health promotion and recreation
  • teacher education and administration.

The college has nearly 5,000 undergraduate students and approximately 2,000 graduate students.
