Dr. Andras Lacko; Scott McConnell, Board Chair of Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure;

On February 5, 2009, officers of the local, non-profit organization “Cowtown Cruisin for a Cure” presented a generous check to support the outstanding cancer research of Dr. Andras Lacko, Professor of Molecular Biology, and Immunology at the UNT Health Science Center.

The Fort Worth based organization was established in 2002 by Chris Goetz to help raise awareness among men of the risk for prostate cancer. Each year since then, Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure has hosted a remarkably successful vintage auto show in downtown Fort Worth. Thousands of local residents show up to enjoy the customized cars and to receive free prostate cancer screenings and other vital health education information.

Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure has been a faithful supporter for the past five years of Dr. Andras Lacko’s nano-particle research at UNTHSC. Dr. Lacko is researching the potential use of an innovative and highly effective cancer drug delivery system utilizing reconstituted, High-Density, Lipoproteins (rHDL).

Gary Grant, Vice President for Development, praised the organization’s leadership and vision, saying, “We are very proud to be partners with Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure and salute them for their excellent community service in the field of prostate cancer research and treatment.”
