HEALTH CENTER NAMES COMMUNICATIONS EXECUTIVE

Thomas P. Gore II, an experienced health care marketing executive, has been appointed associate vice president for marketing and communication at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, it was announced by David M. Richards, D.O., president.

Gore will be responsible for raising levels of public awareness about the center's education and biomedical research programs and for marketing the capabilities of its 102-member faculty group practice. He will also support the institution's fund raising initiatives.

"Tom's first role will be to dismantle our identity as Fort Worth's best kept secret. He and we are now in a good position to do that and far more", said Dr. Richards in announcing the appointment.

Gore has served as vice president for public affairs at the Ochsner Clinic, and later at the Tulane University Medical Center, both in New Orleans. He was vice president for communications at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Princeton, N.J. from 1987 to 1993. He was most recently the senior communications officer at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis.

The UNT Health Science Center is composed of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine with 435 students and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences with 100 students. The institution conducts basic research into diseases of the human eye, the cardiovascular system and the health problems of aging, among its eight Institutes for Discovery. The center's physicians
and surgeons have treated more than 55,000 Fort Worth area patients since January 1.

Gore is a graduate of The Citadel, Charleston, S.C., and is a former U.S. Air Force Officer. Born in Washington, D.C., he spent his first four years in Fort Worth.

His grandfather was the late, blind U.S. Senator Thomas P. Gore of Oklahoma, and he is a cousin of vice president Al Gore.
