HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER HOSTS CONVOCATION AND WHITE COAT CEREMONY
The UNT Health Science Center faculty formally welcomes the 2004-2005 entering students at its Convocation and White Coat ceremony Sept. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
The ceremony will take place at Will Rogers Auditorium. This year’s guest speaker is Leonard H. Finkelstein, D.O., vice chancellor of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and former president of PCOM.
In addition to the White Coat ceremony, a presentation of the Founders’ Medal and Special Faculty Awards will be made by Ronald Blanck, D.O., HSC president. A reception will follow the White Coat ceremony on the health science center campus, in conjunction with the Alumni Plaza dedication.
The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage for students entering the academic health community. During the ceremony, new medical, physician assistant, biomedical sciences and public health students are literally “coated” for the first time. The white coat they receive symbolizes the humanism and integrity required of each individual entering a health-related profession. Students will also receive gifts signifying their entry into their respective professions.
This year’s ceremony will include 131 incoming students from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, 92 new students from the School of Public Health, 89 incoming students from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and 28 new students from the Physician Assistant Studies Program.
Supporters of the Convocation and White Coat ceremony include the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant Studies, the School of Public Health and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
