The Health Science Center and Cook Children’s Physician Network have founded a partnership to further improve the health of Tarrant County through primary care and public health research.

  Researchers and leaders from both the North Texas Primary Care Practice-Based Research Network, or NorTex, housed in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and Cook Children’s met on Jan. 22 to discuss and establish the mission, values, goals and objectives of the new team, named the Cook Children’s/NorTex Interdisciplinary Research Team, or CIRT.

  Various disciplines constitute CIRT, including pediatrics, family medicine, epidemiology, health management and policy, social and behavioral sciences, and basic scientists. Research that is undertaken by CIRT will focus on primary care and public health issues in Tarrant County.

  NorTex, under the direction of Roberto Cardarelli, DO, MPH, assistant professor of family and community medicine at the Health Science Center, is a network of more than 70 clinics in North Texas. It has received National Institutes of Health funding through the Health Science Center’s Texas Center for Health Disparities and is active in cardiovascular, HIV/AIDS and preventive research.
