THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS - AN ANNIVERSARY GALA

Journey with Alice to Wonderland and spend an evening chatting with the Mad Hatter, looking for the Cheshire Cat or attending a Mad Tea Party at the anniversary gala celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

The black tie affair begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at the City Club of Fort Worth. For information on sponsorships and individual tickets, call Carla Lee at 817-735-2560.

Proceeds from the gala will provide scholarships to educate tomorrow’s scientific leaders and support the Dean’s Progress Fund for Advancement of Biomedical Research and Education.

Entertainment at the fundraising gala will include music by the rhythm and blues band Undecided and a three-act musical rendition of scenes from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by On Stage Dance and Performing Arts Studio.

Honorary chairs for the event are Dr. Gerald Cagle, GSBS Distinguished Alumnus 2000 and senior vice president of research and development at Alcon Research Ltd.; Dr. Ray Page, GSBS Distinguished Alumnus 2004 and research director at Texas Cancer Care; and Dr. James Pawelczyk, GSBS Distinguished Alumnus 1997 and a 1998 payload specialist on the Space Shuttle Columbia.

Orchestrating the event are co-chairs Elena Yorio and Dr. Annita Verstappen Bens backed by volunteer planning committee members Amy Chambers, Dr. Julie Young Crider, Dr. Jami Kern, Carla J. Lee, Dr. Leslie Napier, Shea Patterson Young, Dr. James Simpkins and Dean Thomas Yorio.

Sponsorships are available at the $7,500, $5,000 and $2,500 levels, and are tax-deductible. Donor benefits range from a “Thank You” reception with President Ronald Blanck and Dean Thomas Yorio to a special gift commemorating the occasion.
