Graduate Student Association Invitational Science Fair Rescheduled for March 4
The Graduate Student Association’s third annual invitational science fair, originally scheduled for Feb. 18, has been rescheduled for March 4. This year, the science fair is open to both middle school and high school students. Schools that have been invited to participate are Eastern Hills, Paschal, Dunbar, Northside, South Hills and Carter-Riverside high schools, and J.P. Elder Middle School. There will be two different divisions. One division will be for middle school, grades 6th through 8th, and the other division will be for high school, grades 9th through 12th .
“The purpose of the science fair is to show local students that science is important and it’s fun,” said fair organizer Erin Donovan, graduate student in cell biology and genetics and vice president of the Graduate Student Association.
Awards will be given for one winner and two runners-up in the middle school and high school categories. Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences students will judge the competition.
There is no cost to participate in the event, and all participants will receive a prize. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided to student participants. The event will begin at 9 a.m. March 4 and culminate with an awards ceremony from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. later that day. Judging will take place from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Other activities during the day will include a tour of the health science center’s Mary L. Schunder Gross Anatomy Laboratory and forensic demonstrations provided by the Forensic, Investigation, Research and Education (FIRE) student organization.
