International DNA program IDs lost kids
The DNA-PROKIDS program, a partnership between our DNA lab and the University of Granada Spain, is a DNA database designed to help unite children who are victims of human trafficking with their families. A news release about the program appeared this week on Yahoo!, TickerTech.com, Reuters, MSN Money, StreetInsider, and 13 other outlets.

Anthrax case not closed
Bruce Budowle, PhD, executive director of the Center for Human Identification, was named in USA Today as one of two experts calling for a broader review of events surrounding the Bruce Ivins case. Ivins is accused of the 2001 anthrax mailing attacks. An investigation by the FBI continues, despite Ivins’ death more than a year ago.

TCOM alumna delivers 4,000th baby
The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal recently profiled Jane Scott, DO, (TCOM ’86), who was preparing to deliver her 4,000th baby. Her first delivery was in September 1986, soon after graduation. She has kept a record of the names, weights, and sexes of every baby she has delivered throughout her medical career.

Business Press highlights distinguished speaker
George Rust, MD, director of the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, focused on the importance of primary care in preventing diseases in populations traditionally plagued with inequities in access to primary care at the most recent Distinguished Speaker Series presentation. The Fort Worth Business Press highlighted Rust’s presentation and the panel discussion that followed.
